📚Help Fund the Books That Build the Stories📚

A fundraiser for Season One of the Alone in the Room with Invisible People Podcast

Hi, I’m Rebecca Galardo: author, co-host of Alone in the Room with Invisible People, and the daughter of Holly Lisle, a woman who spent half of her life teaching writers how to build stories that matter.

As I prepare to relaunch our beloved writing podcast, I’m creating a brand-new season focused on something a lot of writers wrestle with:

Story Structure: What it is, why it works, and how it shapes every tale we tell.

But I want to go deeper than just one system. This first season will explore the fundamentals of structure through multiple lenses—from emotional arcs to classical form, from the Hero’s Journey to discovery writing, and from plotter to pantser. A second season will dive deeper, playing with structure and advanced techniques and ideas.

To do this right, I need to invest in the books that hold these ideas. Some are classics, others are overlooked gems, but all are critical to building a season that isn’t just informative—it’s transformative.

Your support will help me purchase 15 essential craft books (a mix of old and new).

  • I’ve already started buying the books on my list. I owned a few, bought a few, but I still plan to get those 15 listed below. I have the study materials I need to to annotate, cross-reference, and break down the concepts. I have the tools to create worksheets, listener guides, and mini companion resources for each episode. I just need the books. I’ll get them no matter what, but with help I’ll purchase them sooner, work on the podcast episodes sooner.

What You’re Helping Build:

  • A season of 10 or more in-depth episodes, exploring structure from every angle

  • Dual approaches for each episode for plotters and pantsers

  • Listener worksheets, episode prompts, and behind-the-scenes peeks

  • A living library of structure tools for writers at every stage

Why This Matters:

This podcast was built on love. Love for writing, for learning, for my mom, and for every writer who feels lost in the draft. I want this next season to be worthy of her legacy, and of yours.

If you’ve ever learned something from our show… if you’ve ever struggled with structure… or if you simply want to support a writer digging deep to teach others—

Please consider sponsoring a book or donating here to help me make this happen.

Even $5 gets me closer to another book in the stack.

Book List with Publisher Retail Prices

I am listing the prices on this “Sponsor a Book” Page as the retail price set by publishers. I will look for clean used copies before purchasing any book. My brain gets stuck on annotations or notes made by others (I’ve been told this is due to the ADHD) and I need clean copies to make my own annotations. Any extra money that is raised by this page or the Ko-Fi account will go towards the yearly Podbean fee (usually a bit over $100, though I'm not sure if it has gone up).

With used copies: I always make sure that the price with shipping is at least $3 less than buying a new copy, because that makes it more worth the risk. Risks are: sellers falsely represent the book's condition or send the wrong book entirely (I've had both happen).
